The Guardian (2006)

If you waited for the DVD to see this movie. Be prepared for a new never-ending story. I thought it was slow & dragged out movie. I fell asleep before it ended. I love Kevin Costner & drama movies. This one was too long. Enjoy it, if you can stay awake :(

The Guardian is available today.

Urban Legend on frozen Niagara Falls

There has been a spoof email going around about how in 1911 Niagara Falls froze over.

From Snopes.com:

we don’t know the original source of this picture and thus can’t verify the year in which it was taken.  Although the text that accompanies the image in e-mail forwards usually states that the photo dates from 1911, other sources assign a variety of different dates to it.  Much of the Niagara River around the falls was frozen in 1912, which resulted in a tragic accident when an ice bridge across the river broke free from its shoring as several people were traversing it.  Three people were unable to make it back to shore in time and were killed as the loosened ice plunged down the river.

Nothing in Niagara Falls’ historical background says the Falls was frozen in 1911.

A search led to an article in the Niagara Falls reporter about a different 1911 event:

Lincoln Beachy, one of the first daring and dashing stunt pilots, provided the thrill for Niagara Falls residents and tourists in June of 1911. At that time, flying was in its infancy, only a short eight years after Wilbur and Orville Wright changed the world of travel with the first flight at Kitty Hawk.

FAQ of Niagara Falls:

Does the Falls freeze in Winter?

The Niagara River handles 212,000 cubic feet of water per second. The average depth is approximately 16 feet with a flow rate of 4 to 8 miles per hour. The Niagara River does not freeze over. The Falls of Niagara and the river below the Falls does not freeze either. The volume of water going over the Falls, the depth and speed of the water below the Falls also precludes freezing. The water will not be stopped or frozen solid.

The pictures might look convincing but they are fake & part of internet folklore. Sorry Mike in WNY. ;)

Hey! Where’d my feet go?

;) I went for a walk this evening. This is a good 6 inches.

I looked down & didn’t see my feet.
