Need I say more? ;)

Love for Buffalo & sadness in leaving

We all have had our fair share of moments when we become so fed-up. None more so than me but that is a different story. I’m not ready to leave Buffalo. We have our love for Buffalo stories, our families still here. We have all reached our good & bad times of Buffalo. This is where we realize the best of this city isn’t enough to get by on. Buffalo Amy sent this over in email.

We see stories like this everyday. He’s in his late twenties. He has his MBA. He’s from the Buffalo area. His folks live here. He loves Buffalo and would like to stay.

But…in a couple weeks, if he doesn’t get something in Buffalo, he’s accepting a job in Chicago. He already knows he loves Chicago, and who wouldn’t? It’s a great town. He lived and worked there after graduate school. But like so many others, he came home last year. And he got involved pretty quickly. He volunteered for Buffalo Old Home Week last August.

And then, as so often happens, I didn’t see him again until early this month. Buffalo is small and I ran into him at Sterling Tavern, having a burger and beer with his parents. Turns out he lives a mile or so from me. I’d sent out a collective e-mail to all the volunteers late December and it had bounced back from Charlie’s work e-mail address. I found out why when I saw him. Company downsized after losing a big account.

This story has probably come to everyone at some point & we don’t know how hard it really is until we’re faced with a friend or family member thinking of packing up their stuff & headed out of the state. It’s hardest when not having a good paying job is their reason to leave. I know exactly what it’s like. I have a relative in Florida & another in California under the same circumstances.

Instead of hoping or feeling sad, Amy put out a call for help to keep a good Buffalonian from leaving.

So, here’s my plea to all of you. He’s looking for something in business development or marketing, but might take something that wasn’t a perfect fit to stay here. He’s bright, energetic, and willing to work hard…if he gets the chance. If you know of something, please e-mail me: amy@revitalizebuffalo.org  I have his resume and am happy to send it onward to keep him here. I’d hate to see him become one of the statistics…one of the young people fleeing the area for work. It’s a tragedy. Truly.

Please pass the information along.

It’s that fluffy stuff about Buffalo :-)

This is the best kind of snow. The snow that reminds me of being a little girl. Snow that makes you want to twirl around with your arms spread apart, with your head up & your mouth open to catch a few flakes on your tongue. The snow people miss when they’ve moved away. The snow that looks like there’s thousands of diamonds in your front yard & you want to pick them all. ;) Snow like tonight. At 1 am I stood on my porch & listened to … nothing. No cars driving by, nobody walking, no kids breaking curfew in the city. I heard not a sound. Where I live in Buffalo, there’s always something to break the silence of the night. For about 10 minutes I had the chance to appreciate nature hard at work. Then I got too cold to stay outside. It was so beautiful though. This is my favorite kind of snow. This is the best Buffalo Fluff! ;)
