Freedom Writers

I wrote something last night & I wasn’t sure if I should post it. Then I thought I wouldn’t have freedom unless I let someone else read it. Here’s what I scribbled in the dark:

If you have freedom, one day you can write your life story. Words someone can live by. Words someone can relate to. Words to change a life [if not to change your own]. I watched Freedom Writers & the first thing I thought was as much as there’s a dream to write with what you can to free yourself, sometimes in life there are things that you just can’t change.

In the movie the kids got what they wanted in the end. It was still a powerful story drawing a line of what divides some. A line equally connecting their lives to each other’s. We’re different but we’re still the same.

To write with heart & soul. To write what I think & feel is far less than the challenges the kids [in the movie] faced. Sometimes someone can live forever not having their happily ever after though.

A few times during the movie I though I’d hear Michelle Pfeiffer saying: “They’re are no victims in this classroom!” Instead it was Hilary Swank who went beyond students being just victims set in the same mid 90’s as Dangerous Minds.

I loved the movie. To understand more you’ll have to see it. Freedom Writers will be released on DVD this Tuesday [4/17/07].

A new fave

Earlier today my son saw the newest Toyota SUV. He still likes the H3 but is the FJ Cruiser going to be his new favorite on four wheels? I wonder.

Speaking of “points” leaders … Geek’s ahead of Pundit right now

I was checking my stats today & saw a few things I find very interesting. I am used to seeing Buffalo Pundit as the highest referring site after WNYmedia.net. So far for this month Buffalo Geek is ahead.

Here’s the top 5 from wnymedia:

21 http://buffalogeek.wnymedia.net/
16 http://buffalopundit.wnymedia.net/
9 http://www.allthingsjennifer.wnymedia.net/
8 http://bfloblog.com/

We’re a family at WNYmedia & I know it isn’t a contest or anything but HT Buffalo Geek in the lead for the first time. ;)

Another stats note to mention: Congrats to Michele Johnson for being a first time keyword search here at Fed-Up in Buffalo. You go Girl! ;)

Does Fort Worth ever cross your mind?

I used a song title of my fave country artist to head this post. ;)

Even the points chase is big in Fort Worth, Texas. After two weeks of short track [COT] racing & last Sunday off. Drivers for today’s Busch Series take their seats in the standard cars. Some with big hopes of staying on top in the points races.

From NASCAR.com:

If history repeats, then Edwards is looking good
Leader heads to Texas trying to extend huge margin

Let’s see, a monumental lead after just seven races; a string of finishes that makes it appear he may never finish outside the top 10; and a preseason favorite to win the title. Carl Edwards can shift to cruise control.

Deja vu anyone?

It’s downright easy to hold Edwards’ season stat sheet side-by-side with that of Kevin Harvick last year and see the similarities. And they say history repeats itself. If that’s true, let’s go ahead and unpack the record book before the ink dries.

As historic Harvick’s season was in 2006, Edwards is off to a better start after seven races:

Edwards has two victories, back-to-back no less. Harvick, at this time last year, had none.

Edwards has a 321-point lead in the standings. Harvick’s advantage was 146.

Edwards’ worst finish this season is sixth at Las Vegas, and he has an average of 3.3. Harvick’s worst was 11th with an average of 5.7.

At this point last year, it was anybody’s title … until Harvick rolled off three victories in four races and a second-place finish to boot. So at this point in 2007, with a bigger lead, more victories and better week-to-week performances, is it already over?

“Unless something breaks or he gets run over or something, that’s the guy,” David Reutimann said after last week’s Nashville race, which Edwards won. “That guy’s tough anywhere. We could race golf carts out here and he’d be tough.”

Today’s the Day

It’s 7a.m., my second cup of coffee in hand. The sunshine today is brilliant, warming both the cat behind me and my mood.

My wife comes home today. Looks like the surgery was successful.

So take that, this gorgeous day, the fact that I am going grocery shopping (perhaps invite sonofdub), Sabres game tonight, and this day is pretty much perfect. Probably take all regular streets, no 190 (except bridges of course) to store and back. WNY is beautiful on a day like today. Go out and enjoy if you’re not at work.
If you see me out today grinning like an idiot today, you’ll know why.
