Darien Lake: Like taking formula from babies bottles
August 2nd, 2007 — Uncategorized
I seldom blog about Buffalo News stories but since this was in today’s opinion column, I thought I’d follow up to my last Darien Lake post.
Park’s policy on coolers is a hassle for families
Under new ownership, Darien Lake has a cooler policy. Visitors cannot bring in anything larger than a six pack. On July 13, I arrived with my 1-year-old, 2-year old and 9-year-old children. My friend had a 5-year-old and 2-year-old triplets. We both had six-pack coolers supplied with water, juice and formula. My cooler was 1 or 2 inches taller than hers. The staff rejected it. Earlier that same week they inspected the same cooler and let me in. I was frustrated. I felt the staff was being petty. I spoke with the park’s public relations manager. She apologized, sent me complimentary guest passes and offered a tag for my cooler.
On July 26, I returned with my children and father. To avoid harassment, I brought a plastic grocery bag with an ice pack to keep the children’s drinks cool on this 90 degree day. Once again I received the same treatment. In conclusion, I do not want free passes. I do not want to stand in line at Guest Relations each time to receive a tag. I want families with young children to be considered. Families do not deserve to be harassed when it comes to their children staying comfortable, safe and hydrated.

It is unfair and unfortunate that theme park is not thinking about it’s littlest of patrons.
We’re going to spend more of money supporting Fantasy Island instead.
debate between Buffalo Bloggers is “rising”

106 comments in two days for a post that I can’t figure out what the real problem is.
I’ve summed it up as: some people have just a little too much time on their hands. New Buffalo, old Buffalo …. Buffalo Geek vs. Buffalo Rising… how about if we all just keep an eye on a better City of Buffalo?
