Old Polish-American Buffalo: Adam Plewacki WW1

My son came across a little token of Polish-American history in Buffalo, NY. In a box of old buttons and pins we picked up at an auction, he found this metal commemorating the American Legion Post named after the first Buffalo man killed in World War 1. The Adam Plewacki (the “w” is pronounced as a “v”) Post was dedicated October 1949.

Last year at this time….

It’s hard to imagine that at about this time last year I was calling a relative in Florida to let her know it was snowing in Buffalo. I was so cheerful about it, little did I know what the rest of the night would amount to.

We woke up to this around our house:

“CC pick up that guitar and talk to me”

For 2 days all I have listened to is my Poison greatest hits CD. It’s one I can listen to over and over and not get bored. ;)

Still looking for my St. Elmo’s Fire

You know what it is? It’s St. Elmo’s Fire. Electric flashes of light that appear in dark skies out of nowhere. Sailors would guide entire journeys by it, but the joke was on them… there was no fire. There wasn’t even a St. Elmo. They made it up. They made it up because they thought they needed it to keep them going when times got tough.

After 22 years I’m still looking for those electric flashes of light to guide me when I feel like I’m going nowhere sometimes.

Retro flix

It’s retro movie night. I rented Sleepless in Seattle & Ferris Bueller’s Day off.

I haven’t been able to track down St. Elmo’s Fire though. I love that movie.

Updated: [after the movie]

The best part about the movie is when “Annie” is running towards the Empire State Building to see if “Sam” is really there. It’s so romantic ;)

On the flip side

I was hanging out with a friend today & I started looking through his collection of 45’s. Remember those? I don’t think my kids have ever seen a 45 record up close. New catergory. Blast from the past. ;)
